Africian Violet

This is a plant that my Nanny had and in turn my mother-in-law had and now I have. As much as I enjoy gardening outside I am not much of one for inside plants. I have very much neglected this plant (my grandmother would not be impressed with me) and tonight I transplanted it into some nourishing soil and plan to take better care of it.

Isaac's Debut at Harbour Station

Tim Hortons was the sponsor for hockey at Harbour Station today. Isaac played at 0800 and 0930 hr. Paul, Emma and I made it for the 0930 game.

Proud Papa

Maybe no one is watching.

Isaac waiting for some action.

In front of the net.

How many does it take for the faceoff?

Big brown eyes.

The team receiving their medals. This is Isaac #16.

Looking for Mom and Dad.

Time to come off the ice.

Matinee

Went to see Avatar on Saturday afternoon...WOW! Paul and the girls had seen it before Christmas and I wasn't really interested but now I'm glad I went. What an experience in 3D.It reminded me a bit of a movie the girls use to watch when they were little, "Fern Gully", fairies in the woods living peacefully, harmonized with the trees and humans with their pwerful equipment destroying the forests.......alot of similarities. Paul and Emma went to see "The Book of Eli", it was OK. Earlier this month Paul and i went to see "It's Complicated". Being a chic flick I wasn't eager to haul Paul along, but he agreed and was pleasantly surprised at the number of couples and older at that. He didn't feel so out of place and actually laughed and chuckled at a number of things. I am partial to Meryl Streep and enjoyed the movie tremendously.

Sunday Afternoon

Paul and I were home from NS around 1615 and I wanted to get in some snowshoeing because the snow was great and they were calling for rain on Monday. So Emma and Paul joined me and we were back home at 1745.....we went up to the local golf course.

Saturday Afternoon

After the eagles we went back into Kentville and had lunch at Paddy's Pub/Rosies Restaurant. We had hoped to get snowshoeing in the afternoon and while we were indulging into a slice of chocolate kaluha cheesecake a group of about 20 came in for lunch. They appeared to have been out cross country skiing so I approached one of the ladies and she put us onto a trail just 10 minutes down the road behind the Evergreen Special Care Home. She estimated it was about 6-7 km. and it took us 1 hr. 45 min.

Saturday Evening

Saturday night we spent in Wolfville at Victoria's Historic Inn.

It was built in 1893 and was converted to an Inn in 1948.

The present owners have had it for the last 19 years.

Our room was the Executive Hideaway Room....we hated to leave on Sunday. It is by far one of the nicest places we have stayed.

The stain glass is original to the house.

We could see Acadia University across the street. We were told that the population of the university matches that of Wolfville....3000.
This evening we ate at the Mud Creek in Wolfville.....apparently a great hangout for the university kids, just minutes from the school.

Eagle Watch 2010

Saturday morning Paul and I were in Sheffield Mills, NS for the annual Eagle Watch. At a designated field the local chicken farmers feed the eagles. That morning we arrived at 0800hr. At 0815 a farmer delivered some dead chickens to the site. We waited and waited and waited but none of the eagles were interested. A gentleman next to me was from Ontario. He had been at the field on Friday when the farmers had fed them....he waited 5 hours and not one eagle was interested. There were people from around NS, as well as NB and PEI.
At around 1015 hr. the farmer came with more chickens. Then the activity began. The seagulls began circling over head and then 3 eagles joined in. They circled for about 20 minutes and then the first eagle swooped down and tried to grab a chicken off the ground but with no luck. Then others came and before we knew it there were 10-15 on the ground and as many still in the trees. They fed for approx. 1 hour.

He has his lunch.

Between Paul and I we took approx. 700 pictures....it's so easy with a digital camera and today I narrowed it down to 260. I'll have to narrow it even more....it's so hard to do.

Comex Bus

I have lived in the greater Saint John are since 1980 and never taken the city bus. Yesterday I took the Comex bus from here to the city. It a bus service offered to the out lying areas of Saint John and it runs specificially to get people back and forth from work Monday to Friday. I was only booked to work from 1000hr.-1530hr. and Paul had gone in for his regular 0730-1530hr. So rather than take 2 vehicles I decided to try the bus. It was a beautiful morning, no wind. I left the house at 0825 and caught the last bus into the city at 0840. The drive in was great, I listened to a podcast on my iTouch, took in the morning scenery and left the driving to someone else. I could see how people in large cities would take advantage of the public transportation system. I arrived in Saint John at 0900, stopped for a coffee at Tim's on my way to work and was standing at my locker at 0910. I then sat in our lounge drank my coffee, read the paper and went down the hall for 1000. Now I realize what would normally be a 20 minute commute turned into a 50 minute commute but I had the time to spare and I was not rushed. It's definitely something I and Paul will be doing on those days when I am only working part days.

Day of Un-decorating

Today was a full day. We were up by 0830 ( rather late risers) had breakfast and settled in for a days work. While it snowed outside, Paul and I took the day (minus a lunch break) to erase all signs of Christmas. We took both trees down and un-decorated the house. Amazing how quickly it all comes down as opposed to how long it takes to put it all up. I know, I know, I have ALOT of christmas things but I do enjoy the season.... now it is all tucked away until December.
