Kitchen Reno

 BEFORE

AFTER

We had our kitchen renovated this July/August.
We hired a wonderful contractor who co-ordinated everything for us.
Avondale Kitchens out of Woodstock did the cupboards ( disregard the green tape on some of the cupboards as there are still deficiencies to address)
Local trades did our plumbing, electrical and carpenter work.
We did as much as we could on our own....demolition, painting, cleanup.
Over all it went very smoothly but largely due to our outstanding contractor.

Emerging Artists

This was put forward by the town in the spring.
Due to the flooding it was postponed to this past weekend.

This is the painting I submitted.
I was abit disappointed when I picked it up yesterday that there was no feedback given.
We were away for the weekend, therefore I was unable to attend on Sunday.
I could not even get a confirmation that the winning paintings would be posted on the towns facebook page.

Resident Dragonfly.....today we had 3.

Whenever we uncover the pool we are visited by a dragonfly.
It flies repeatedly over the pool, at times it appears it is doing a grid.

Today we had a pair of mating dragonflys that repaetedly flew over the pool, occassionally touching the water. We think they are laying their eggs in the water.
the single dragonfly was present as well.....3 dragonflys.
I tried to video the single dragonfly.....above is the results.

This is the only picture I was able to get of the two dragonflys together.

Weekend in Halifax

A big part of the weekend was the food.

Friday night was burgers........Wagyu beef. (explanation to follow)

Saturday morning we started with waffles and bacon.

In the afternoon the girls went to Mahone Bay and here we are at the Kicking Horse cafe.

That evening we had steaks, string beans and roasted potatoes.
The beef was Wagyu meat.

"Wagyu meat comes from a group of Japanese breeds revered for an incredibly high level of fat marbling. Where the best Western beef has white streaks running through it, Japanese wagyu is more fat than flesh, a slab of white with a splattering of pink.
And it’s not just any fat – this is a soft fat with a low melting point, due in part to its high proportion of monounsaturated fats, to go along with high levels of omega 3 and 6. Which, yes, means that it is probably healthier fat than the regular saturated kind, although in these fat-friendly days there are those who claim that saturated fat should never have been demonised anyway. The point is that fat is where the flavour of meat resides, and this particular dissolving fat makes for the juiciest, richest steak in the world."

Jack and Margie found a vet on PEI who raises Wagyu cows and then sells the meat. They purchased 250lbs. of meat in different cuts.

Jack is marinating the steaks.

Don't ask!

Cooking on the BBQ.

 Delicious.

 A few games of ALIAS.

Snacks on the deck Sunday afternoon...
tortilla bread done on the BBQ, brie with garlic and sundried tomatoes on a salt block, and homemade salsa.

 Chicken wings followed.

Sunday evening chicken on the BBQ cooked with the salt block, baked potatoes on the BBQ with asparagus and cherry tomatoes.

And each meal ended with homemade ice cream, maple walnut, vanilla, raspberry sorbet and lemon gelato.

Maple Walnut Ice Cream.....my favorite so far.
