Retirement Dinner

Retiree on right.

Above are those of us STILL working!

Last evening I attended a retirement dinner. This individual graduated in 1965 and by the time I started in the OR she had been working 17 years.....at this time she was busy raising a family and working casual. Then 34 years into her career, at the age of 52, when most of us are looking to retire, she took on a full time position and worked another13 years to retire at 65....a 44 year career. I have been to a number of retirement dinners but this was qutie memorable. It was like a family coming together to show their appreciation. There were retired friends/co-workers, 4 of her 6 children and their spouses, siblings, doctors (even some came from out of town), best wishes from out of town doctors and one surgeon who couldn't be there sent her 2 outstanding bouquets of roses. It was an impressive evening and a great tribute to someone who touched SO MANY lives in her career, patients and co-workers alike.

Deans Dinner

Brenna was invited to, and on Monday, attended the Deans Dinner for STU. She said there were 200+ students in attendance. Professors were interspersed among the students for the dinner. Brenna was talking to friends and they were all reminiscing about high school days with musicals and choirs. One of the professors overheard her and asked if she sang with "the SPECIAL CHOIR". Of course Brenna is thinking, "What does he mean by the SPECIAL CHOIR?" Through furthur conversation she came to understand that he WAS referring to the chior that had sang at STU, attended musical festivals in Europe and won provincial awards......Harbour View Chorale Asemble. He was quite surprised that she wasn't part of the STU choir and strongly encouraged her to come out to practise. All in all she had a great evening and was back to her old haunts at Rigby.

Cremation in my Kitchen

A couple of weeks ago we had a minor repair done to the stove and the repair guy has been reminding us to try all the features on the stove before the warranty runs out. Today I did the Self Clean......it works great. The only draw back is the smell and it creates a fine cloud of smoke in the kitchen. Luckly it was a gorgeous day and I opened the windows. I had been talking to a couple of girls at work about the self clean feature and they compared it to a cremation...."the stove creates a tremendous amout of heat and in the end you are left with only the ashes to clean up."

Sunday Supper

Sunday we cooked a roast with the meat probe, set on convection roast. It was the first time we had cooked, not baked, with convection...it was rather tasty. I really like my new stove. :-)

Halloween 2009

This afternoon, Emma and I made our annual cookies....sorry Brenna we put almond extract in the frosting :-)

Emma dressed up and handed out treats. We had a monkey, cowgirl, grim reaper, spider, master chief from Halo, vampire witch, miner, soldier, goth princess and others, 41 in total. One girl, maybe about 10 years old, thought Emma was a wench!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Reminiscing

Emma and I were talking about Halloween's past. Here are some reminders. (the above one is
1990 ....no I am not pregnant, Brenna was just 1 year old, too young to go out.)

1991. Reuse of dinosaur costume.

Now dinosaur costume is handed down. 1992

1993. Mary and Margie should recognize the ball uniforms!
