Cedar Waxwings

Last week on a rainy mornig, the trees around the house were full of birds. They were especially fond of the mountain ash trees. These aren't great pictures but the birds didn't stay very long in any one place. Notice the BRIGHT yellow color at the tip of his tail feathers.

Duck Cove, NB

These were taken last Tuesday as one of 3 cruise ships left the harbour.

Preserving Fall for Winter

On Saturday I made 2 batches of Mustard Pickles.

Last week I bought a bag of squash, 13 buttercup squash.
Emma and I had one for supper on Sunday....yummy

Today I started to put some away for winter.
I did 4 squash this morning...it took me 50 minutes to peel them....(hard on the hands)

....cooked them ( 2 pots)

....mashed them and let them cool

...and then bag them into individual servings (Paul doesn't eat squash);
4 bags /2 squash. At this rate I'll have plenty for the winter. I'll share with Emma ,
because she likes it as well.

Hummingbirds

The hummingbirds have been very busy at my feeder. Yesterday during hirricane Earl, when I expected they would stay sheltered and safe in their nests, they were busily out and about. There are 2 females who consistently visit. It's like they are the best of friends......as one feeds, the other may sit on top of the pole that holds the feeder, as if guarding their territory. Then they depart and it's like they are doing a dance in the air, twittering at each other, flying together, slowly up high till you can hardly see them and then rapidly descending. They then fly from flower to flower, gracefully through the arbor, over to the maple trees or monutain ash and then back to the feeder. Late yesterday afternoon brought a 3rd, a male. Today I put out a second feeder, just off the deck and within 20 min. one was quietly perched and feeding. Fall is close at hand and by next month thay will be making their long journey south. They are very interesting to watch and it is most amazing that they will find their way back in the spring to the same feeders.

Pool Time

This picture was taken last weekend when the Van Kessel's were here and somehow I missed it.
What a great picture of the boys....
and this was the one and only time Sasha was in the pool.

Hurricane Earl

This heavy rain and wind went through at around 1430hr.

It's now almost 1600hr. and the sun is trying to come out.
(the video portion on my digitial camera isn't performing up to par......
therefore the sound is poor on theses videos)
