Brennas First Day at Work

Today was Brenna's first day at work. She was very pleased to see her neighbor and friend as well as a high school friend. It was a day of settling back in......after all it's like riding a bike, you never forget. She did come home with work related injuries...........numerous paper cuts :-) and to top it all off she had no house keys and after work had to go over the hill to Longwwoods until her parents arrived home. All in all it was a good day......she didn't get yelled at, she didn't get dirty and what was the third one, she had time to eat??????? Help me out Jon.

Jack Graduates from STU

STU Graduate

Emma and Jack in Margaret Norrie McCain Hall.

Yesterday was graduation Day at STU. The ceremony is usually held outdoors on campus, but the weather was not co-operating so it was moved inside. This is the first university graduation I have ever attended. Things wrapped up around 5:00pm then back to the university for pictures, returning of gowns and picking up of diploma. After we gathered at Emma and Jacks appartment with Jacks family. It was a great day.
CONGRATULATIONS JACK!!!! JOB WELL DONE!!!!!!

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

The modern Mother's Day holiday was created by Anna Jarvis as a day for each family to honor their mother and it's now celebrated on various days in many places around the world. It complements Father's Day, the celebration honoring fathers. This holiday is relatively modern, being created at the start of the 20th century.

Spent the weekend in Grand Falls. Dutch Girl with her Mom.

We women can relate.....have the kleenex box handy!

The "To Do List"

Today was a very productive day. We spent the day completing Opa and Omas "To Do List". We managed to cross every item off the list:
Put the windmill out
Put up the gazebo
String lights in the gazebo
Put out the deck furniture
Put the BBQ on the deck
Put new cord on the flag pole and put up the flag
Weed and clean out the flower and shrub beds
Weed and mulch the bed along the front walk
Put out garden ornaments(shovel, bird bath, etc)
Put out solar lights.
It was an absolutely gorgeous day and the weather co-operated until we were finishing the last item, working with the METAL flag pole.....we could hear thunder in the distance (not the best place to be, under a flag pole :-) but by the time we packed it in and came in for supper, it had started to rain.
A day well spent.
Tonight Brenna gets in from Toronto and Paul will be picking her up in town.
Tomorrow we are attending Jacks graduation from STU.
The evening ended with a great game of cards.......Hearts!!!

Fire! Fire! Fire!

For my sisters, after all you each lived in Halifax at one time or another!
The once-raging wildfire in the Halifax area has been reduced to a few hot spots, the city's fire department said Saturday.
Lloyd Currie, executive officer with the Halifax regional fire service, said the flames are out, but fire crews will be watching for any smouldering debris through the weekend.
"The fire is extinguished. That means right now there is no visible flame. The Department of Natural Resources is going back in there with 20 to 30 of their crews to take care of any possible flare-ups and hot spots," Currie said.
Fire investigators are continuing their search for a cause of the fire, which destroyed eight homes, damaged 10 others and prompted about 1,200 people to flee.
The blaze broke out Thursday in an area between Herring Cove Road and Purcells Cove Road. Crews were able to get it under control on Friday under rainy skies.
Dave Meldrum of the Halifax regional fire service said he expects officials will allow residents to return to the last two dozen evacuated homes in a couple of days.
As for the cause of the fire, investigators are focusing their attention on the area between Roaches Pond and MacIntosh Street.
Police are investigating a suspected case of arson, saying they believe a home was set on fire during the evacuation process.
