Weekend in Grand Falls

Friday night we drove to Grand Falls after work. We stopped and visited with Brenna and had supper at a local pub, Dolan's, good food. She stayed behind beacuse she was running a low grade temp. and had a sore throat. She didn't want Opa and Oma to get sick. The locals in Grand Falls were busy harvesting potaoes and corn. The colors are much furthur ahead than us but give it another week or two and they will be breath taking.

Saturday I woke to a very heavy frost. I immediately grabbed the camera and took pictures of the spider webs on Mom and Dad's deck. While out there I could hear geese off in the distance and looked up to see two in the sky above me. Later in the morning we drove out to lakeside and there were many geese in the lake. Actually while there a flock flew in and joined the rest on the lake. We spent the afternoon winterizing the outdoors........cleaning up the pernnial beds, putting furniture away and the windmill, etc.

Sand Storm in Australia

Sydney, 24 Sept. – Cleaning work in the city of Sydney has begun the day after the sandstorm that enveloped the city in a spectacular red cloud. Economic losses have been estimated at tens of millions of Australian dollars: the sand covered not only the motorways, but also entered homes, and the strong wind, which gusted at over 100 km per hour, destroyed hundreds of trees and roofs. The storm paralysed the metropolis and, according to experts, the event will have strong effects in coming weeks: ''When the climate is such that it isn't safe to go to work, there are great inconveniences'', commented Mark Goodsell, spokesman for the Australian industrialist union, forecasting losses connected to the suspension of work, employees unable to get to their offices, flight delays and cancellations, plus cleaning work. The phenomenon, which arrived from the centre of the continent, began Tuesday night, arriving in Sydney in the early morning, where more than 4 million citizens awoke in a surreal red light. The situation today from a weather point of view has changed radically: the 'moral capital' of Australia sits under the shining sun and the air is clean, even if dryness and strong winds continue in the area. The cloud of sand is now headed east, in the direction of the state of Queensland and the Tasmanian Sea.

Gagetown Fair

Yesterday morning I ventured to Gagetown for the annual fall fair....my first time. It was a very cool, windy fall morning and upon arrival the first order of business was the 4-H display. That certainly brought back memories of my 4-H days of sewing, public speaking, demonstrations ....this group displayed photography, paintings, drawings and recycling. Next it was on to the display of pickles, produce, flowers, pies, knitting, quilts and all groups had been judged with 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners. We then wandered outside to see the cattle and horses. The outdoor activities didn't start until afternoon but we were on a time schedule and had to get back. We lunched at the Creek View Restaurant.....all homemade food. I had Ginger Carrot soup with a biscuit and warm ginger bread drizzled with real maple syrup and a dollip of real whip cream.....YUMMY. It was sooooo good that in the afternoon I had to make a molasses cake for supper.

Road Trip

On Friday, September 11th, friends and I did a road trip to Moncton. Our first stop was Cosco and it wasn't long before we had the trunck full. We then went to Danier and over to Hallmark. I did quite well to refrain from spending and left Danier and Hallmark empty handed.

Then we came back through Gagetown and visited Greig Pottery. Again I left empty handed but I have my eye on a couple of things for my next visit.

We then went down the road to Charlotte's Family Orchard and bought squash and Paula Red Apples. The squash was DELICIOUS and I made an apple crumble that was scrumpous.

We managed to get more into the trunk.

Then it was a late lunch at the Evandale Resort. The food is all homemade and worth a visit.

Off to Windsor

On Saturday, September 5th, we drove to Moncton to see Jack off on the train to Windsor. He is starting a full year program for his Masters in Political Science. He left Moncton at 1720hr. and arrived in Windsor the next day at 2100hr. He will be home at Christmas, but with Skype, Emma and Jack talk every day...........Paul and I were apart in our dating years for 5 months and could only comunicate with letters; how times have changed.

Moving Weekend

Empty Apartment!

On Saturday, August 29th, we moved Brenna to her apartment in Fredericton and moved the rest of Emma's apartment back home......and we did it during hurricane Danny. Paul had brought enough tarps and amazingly, nothing was wet when we returned home. On Sunday we went back to Fredericton and helped Emma clean her apartment.

Serious Gardener

This lady lives a short distance from where Emma's apartment was in Fredericton. Emma said that everytime it rained, she would put out the umbrellas to protect her plants.
I just wanted to share this picture.
